The reason most solo businesses stall isn’t a lack of effort. It’s too many open loops. You’re learning funnels and fixing your logo and researching email tools and second-guessing your niche — all at once, all half-finished. Overwhelm feels like work but produces nothing.
The cure is a map. One page that shows the whole business at a glance, so you can see what actually needs building next instead of reacting to whichever tab is loudest.
Why one page, not a business plan
A 40-page business plan is a place ideas go to die. You write it once, feel productive, and never open it again. A one-page map is different: it’s a dashboard you glance at daily. It fits in your head. And because space is scarce, it forces the hard decisions a long document lets you avoid.
If it doesn’t fit on one page, you don’t understand it yet.
What goes on the map
Seven boxes, connected in a line, each feeding the next:
- Audience — the one person you serve.
- Pain — the exact problem they’ll pay to solve.
- Offer — the one thing you sell them first.
- Content — how strangers discover you.
- Leads — how you capture an email.
- Follow-up — how trust builds automatically.
- Revenue — how it turns into money, repeatably.
Fill each box with a single sentence. The gaps reveal themselves instantly: an empty “Leads” box means you’re making content that vanishes; an empty “Follow-up” box means you’re letting warm leads go cold.
The real value: what to ignore
A map doesn’t just show what to do — it shows what not to do. That logo redesign? Not on the map. The fifth social platform? Not on the map. The elaborate automation for a list of 12 people? Not on the map. Anything that isn’t filling the next empty box or fixing the weakest joint is a distraction wearing a productivity costume.
Start with the weakest box
Look at your seven boxes and find the one that’s emptiest or weakest. That’s your entire to-do list this week. Not all seven — the one. When it’s solid, move to the next weakest. A business gets built the same way it gets understood: one box at a time.
